| IMPORTANT LIFE CONCLUSION #1: Kit Kats |
[Feb. 4th, 2010|03:14 pm] |
Today I totally HAD A BREAK HAD A KITKAT (sitting on the lawn, reading a magazine, sighing really loudly to try and stop hating my day...) and I came to the very important conclusion I may have been too dismissive of Kit Kats over my lifetime. They are pretty good! I feel a lot better! In equally as important news I still think Time Outs are overrated. Do they still exist? I remember a few years ago somebody (Matt Giles?) claimed Time Out as their favourite chocolate bar and it confused and offended me pretty hard. Apologies to Matt Giles if that wasn't him at all. No apologies about abusing him over it if it was, though. But yeah, Time Out? Really? Isn't that like saying your favourite meat is chicken?*
*A reason some awesome person once had for their new boyfriend being no good. Pretty sure he got DUMPED. |

| MOON |
[Feb. 3rd, 2010|11:24 am] |
Last night I saw Moon at Kings Park it was supergreat! Also the real life moon was really good, did you see it? It wasn't full but still huge! Anyway Sam Rockwell strikes again, it was a big relief to enjoy the film so completely after wanting to see it for so long. Also A++ for the poster. And A++ for the company of dudes and sandwiches!

| | two weekssss | ] | Yesterday i tried to spend a $100 chocolate voucher and it was too hard. I got to $46 and will have to go back again to finish it off. I felt like I was in there for HOURS. Thats a lot of chocolate hey, especially for someone who isn't one of those chocolate-crazies? Even the girl in the shop was like WHAT? I wished that I could buy something super retarded and $100 worth for my Valentine.

| 2009 in some lists |
[Jan. 5th, 2010|11:57 am] |
the 2 worst things about 2009: 1. family members with extreme cases of cancer, depression, heart attacks, strokes, knee replacements blahhhhblahblah 2. slugs
7 biggest disappointments of 2009: people i thought to be pretty awesome doing stupid shit and wrecking friendships. the monsters of folk & jenny lewis albums: ehhhhh. (edit: ok apparently acid tongue was 2008? whatever it still was not great in 2009) 500 days of summer: oh GOD. i have no words. jim & pam's wedding: worst episode ever. the book i'm supposedly working on not being anywhere near where it should've been (i.e. finished) by now the bird eating all our fishes from the pond animal collective at capitol
top 10 dishes of 2009 (without repeating dishes within the same restaurant um apart from things at home.): kogi bbq truck tacos oysters & pearls at the french laundry west end deli zucchini salad palace carnitas octopus at cantina quail coffee & cocoa at amuse white gazpacho at the gorbals palace salt bomb bbq pizza white anchovies the potatoes at the bazaar
top 4 fictional television dudes roger sterling ron swanson charlie kelly tim riggins
My favourite album from 2009 was To Willie, by Phosphorescent. Special mentions also to Grizzly Bear, Jack on Fire, Yim Yames, Billy C and Deep Dark Woods.
ummm ok thats enough of that bye! |

| post america december! |
[Jan. 2nd, 2010|08:47 am] |
HEY INTERNET, I DID IT! I stuck to that super difficult task of listing shit each month. Congratulations, me. Here is my December, this month is listed in order of LIFE DOMINANCE:
1. the whole matt got a new job and we're moving to melbourne thing: this is mostly yay how exciting and ooh i get to reorganise all my nonsense and i get to actually quit my job and we are going to get to see people we haven't in ages ALL THE TIME and also Mongey but it is also ow man our familes and the beach and my boys and having to apply for new jobs and all the new babies in town that we are going to miss squeezing as they grow up and etc etc... but mostly i think it will be a fun time.
2. Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia: fliip fliiip flipppadelphia! Geez louise this show DESTROYED me this month. We did some catching up on season 4 and 5 and man alive it is pretty unstoppable. Charlie's kitten mittons ad might just take out best thing on tv this year award. Sorry Mad Men.
3. BABIES: to add to the awesome baby bea already existing (note: she is still pretty awesome), there got born three more minis to people i work with. Hopefully I get to see them a bit before we leave, especially the norwegian one. Also this movie is coming out, which I know is ridiculous but I will totally watch it, you can get stuffed.
4. CHRISTMAS: I am just a sucker for christmas. Johnny Cash singin me carols over breakfast and present opening is just the BEST start to a day. Also the family meals were not stressful like they usually are and I got really good presents this year, the two best of them being ones that a lot of thought and effort but zero money went into which is like.. you know, that true spirit of giving or something that people will always go on about as if spending just one dollar at all is some kind of crime. But Q and Cowgs made my christmas this year, top shelf dudes they are.5. End of the year lists, most of the time: ok I can’t be bothered with straight up best albums or films etc lists anymore it is nearly always the same from everywhere (and Tristan Fidler’s list is all anyone should really bother with I think even though I am not down with his #1 pick.. but the Special Awards are outstanding!) Anyway the end of the year brings things such as Videogum’s best of youtubes and worst people of 2009 and 13 cutest animals of the year etc etc and Paul Scheer's Fave 5 and David Rees’ many weirdo lists which are always so great and a good way to spend those last days at work, holiday days wasting time on the internet. One looming omission this year though is the Cowgill Awards. We got some mid-year but what about the rest? Where the End of Year Cowgill Awards at, String? (See what I did there? This year I have read a lot of Videogum. This is what happens.) Other non-numbered honorable mentions: Cantina dinner, numerous afterwork drinks with various folks, Rottnest, Crank2 with Tricky Fids, many bbq pizzas, top chef finale at grogery st even though the result was HEARTBREAKING, split seconds & chatesy le rouge.. umm thats it maybe.
Hello 2010 please be nice to me. |

| Woops! Nov 18th - Dec 6th 2009 |
[Dec. 18th, 2009|11:11 am] |
Ohhhhhh December is even nearly over so very quickly (to myself most likely) here is November Part 2 (and partly into December), I think it is officially called PALACEUSA2.0 or EATING WAY TOO MUCH FOOD AND FEELING SICK BUT IT KINDOF BEING WORTH IT REALLY
- Tacos. Many awesome and tiny tacos. Also margaritas.
- The Bazaar!
- The Gorbals. We saw Ilan, daaaang <3 Also I ate tripe for the first time.
- Thanksgiving! We met some amazingly nice chef/restaurant owners in LA who adopted us into their private Thanksgiving dinner it was pretty great!
- KOGI TACO TRUCK these tacos get a point of their own because holy shit the hype is for realzzzz
- A bunch of other excellent restaurants all of which were A++
- Where The Wild Things Are! Fantastic Mr Fox! Also A Serious Man & Men Who Stare At Goats. Also UP! on the plane which I think I cried through at least 50% of. (it was a long and lonely flight okay and that movie is SAD, GEEZ.)
- San Francisco Zoo helloooo miniest gorilla ever
- Alcatraz! Sometimes touristing is good and this was one of those times.
- Maurice Sendak exhibition at the Jewish Museum (I want to call it the Jew-seum so bad, sorry?)
- BRIDGES & MOUNTAINS: MASSIVE.
- The French Laundry! Geez Louise. This one can't really be described.
Conclusion: Los Angeles is odd, and...well I don't know what else to say about it really. San Francisco is great and I can understand why san franciscans would hold some pride in being so. 'Wine regions' are the same everywhere (see: Napa Valley, Margaret River - these are the only two I have been to but I'll assume the entire world is like this). |

| did you know: slugs are the worst things ever |
[Nov. 9th, 2009|02:46 pm] |
Holy shit these sons of bitches are UNSTOPPABLE:
Slugs are hermaphrodites, having both female and male reproductive organs.
Once a slug has located a mate, they encircle each other and sperm is exchanged through their protruded genitalia. A few days later the slugs lay around 30 eggs into a hole in the ground, or beneath the cover of an object such as a fallen log.
Apophallation is a commonly seen practice among many slugs. In apophallating species, the penis curls like a cork-screw and during mating often becomes entangled in the mate's genitalia. Apophallation allows the slugs to separate themselves by one or both of the slugs chewing off the other's penis. Once its penis has been removed, the slug is still able to mate using only the female parts of its reproductive system.
I feel so sick from reading about slugs now :( |

| what did i do in october? |
[Nov. 3rd, 2009|04:35 pm] |
I went to the movies! Saw the Woody Allen / Larry David film Whatever Works and I enjoyed it. It was good to see a)A reasonable new but typical Woody Allen film, and b)Larry David not do really painful Larry David-esque things.
I had a nice film and dinner evening with Tristan & Danica featuring Rachel Getting Married. Film = okay, Anne Hathaway = still nahhh, Company = A++!
Uhh I can't be bothered continuing in that style, some other stuff also happened like Rhysie's bday, cushion-making, Baby Bea's chubby legs, bloody marys, Restaurant Wars, buying of tickets for the millions of good tours coming up, Cantina, Alda's, Baby Bea's tree party, white anchovies, all motown girlbands all the time, the usual television goodness (although my concerns over the office increase daily) and a whole lot of counting down to holidaysssssss (this continues)
Above: Aziz Ansari winning at Halloween.
